Nova Health Provider Profile - Regina Fiacco

“What thrills me about being a medical provider, particularly a primary care provider, is that it provides me the opportunity to immerse myself in the human condition, from birth to death, through all the complexities, hardships, successes, losses, conflict, and growth. People have amazing stories and have had incredible journeys, and I find it extremely rewarding to be a part of that journey.”

Regina Fiacco, PA-C

Family Medicine – Junction City

Regina Fiacco, PA-,C brings compassion and caring to Nova Health and its patients. She possesses extensive knowledge and experience in family and internal medicine, as well as emergency and urgent care. She is committed to maintaining professional, trusting, long-term relationships with her patients and creating spaces during appointments that help her patients feel supported, heard, understood, and at ease.

“I have enjoyed many different areas of medicine and have had experience in women’s health, emergency medicine, urgent care, family practice, internal medicine, and mental health.”

Regina is proficient at obtaining detailed patient histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic tests, developing diagnoses, and designing and implementing collaborative treatment plans. In addition, she has specified knowledge and expertise in lesion removal, laceration repair, incision and draining, and joint injections.

“I tend to take a more holistic approach with most patients, meaning I treat the whole person by addressing not just their physical health but also their emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual health. When appropriate, I incorporate the use of alternative therapies or alternative treatment strategies in addition to conventional western medicine.”

Regina graduated Summa Cum-Laude from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, in 2001.

“As a young idealistic college student, with a kind heart and eagerness to learn, I was inspired to work in what I found a fascinating field of biology and physiology, healing injuries and curing diseases.”

Regina worked the first three years of her career at medical centers and family medicine clinics in Derby, Augusta, and Wichita, Kansas. She then worked for five years as a physician assistant in an emergency room at Three Rivers Hospital in Brewster, Washington.

Regina then worked as a physician assistant at a medical center in Brewster, Washington, for seven years. During this time, she performed routine family medical care for patients of all age ranges in need of acute and chronic disease states. During this time, she specialized in preventative women’s health and provided counseling and implemented various treatment strategies in hormone replacement therapy, family planning, and infertility issues. Then, from 2012 to 2013, Regina worked at an internal medicine clinic, performing routine care for patients age 18 and older.

For about a year, Regina next worked in a hospital emergency room supporting emergency room physicians by evaluating and treating level three and four patients, including performing histories and physicals, ordering appropriate emergency diagnostic tests, establishing a diagnosis, and discharging patients home with prescriptions and treatment plans or admitting them to the hospital for more intensive care. Then from 2015 to 2016, she worked as a physician assistant at a hospital walk-in clinic in Newport, Oregon, working independently to perform a brief history and physical, order the appropriate laboratory and radiology tests if applicable, and initiate treatment.

“I feel that part of our job as health care providers is to truly understand and know our patients, what motivates them and what alienates them, what hurdles they face, and what inner strengths they possess, as this is the only way we can really forge a trusting relationship, which is necessary to make any real, meaningful difference in the lives of our patients.”

Immediately before joining Nova Health, Regina worked as a physician assistant at Samaritan Central Coast Internal Medicine in Newport, Oregon. She also worked at River Road Medical Group as a physician assistant. In these positions, Regina performed routine family practice care for patients ranging from infants to seniors with acute and chronic disease conditions. She also worked at this time at River Road’s Prevention Plus Clinic, diagnosing and providing intimate treatments to assist patients in managing ongoing chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, atrial fibrillation, chronic heart failure, and chronic pain.

“Over the past 20 years, I have learned what being a medical provider is really about; yes, we diagnose, we treat, we sometimes cure, but that is not the most important purpose that we serve. Most people experience a time in their life, often several times, when they feel vulnerable, sick, weak, scared, confused, unhappy, or they are looking for a change. I continue to be a medical provider because I feel everyone deserves and should have someone in their corner during those times, especially someone who has medical knowledge and clinical expertise.”

When not caring for her patients, Regina enjoys family movie and game nights, going on outdoor adventures with her children, watching her kids experience and learn about the world, teaching them new things, and helping them negotiate their way in the world.

“I love visiting the beach and smelling and feeling the ocean, traveling and experiencing new places, yoga, and meditation, watching live theater, going out dancing, and spending quality time with friends.” She lives in Eugene with her husband and five children.
