Nova Health Provider Profile

“What I wish I could tell every patient is to find humor where appropriate and listen well.”

Mitch Boriskin, FNP

Family Medicine

The Eugene community owes much to Mitch Boriskin. He is one of the founding members of Eugene Urgent Care (now Nova Urgent Care). While the urgent care center has become a local, dependable, and much-appreciated staple for those in need of critical care, Mitch’s contributions to his patients extend over 34 years. Since he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1980, Mitch has been treating patients up and down the Pacific Coast, from California to Washington at hospitals, clinics, and family practices.

Drawing from a concentrated master’s study in the development of rural health clinics, Mitch has dedicated the majority of his career to treating patients in rural Oregon. His expertise and compassionate care in serving too often underrepresented rural areas did not go unnoticed. In 1991, he was recognized at the Oregon Rural Health Conference as the Rural Practitioner of the Year.

Mitch has also helped to lay a foundation for ongoing quality care by instructing future students as a member of the faculty at Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland and volunteering as  preceptor to provide supervision to residents during their clinical practice.

Mitch earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California in 1980, and a Master of Science Degree, a Family Nurse Practitioner Certification, and an Emergency Room Nurse Practioner certificate from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. “My Jewish mother inspired me to be a medical provider. Today, what I love most about working in healthcare is the degree of intimacy in the interaction I have with my patients.”

When not treating patients, Mitch can be found at his home in Eugene with his family or exploring the outdoors. “We have 21-year-old twins who attended the University of Oregon and a 19-year-old living in Sedona Arizona. I’m still playing ice hockey, although poorly at age 66.”
