Nova Health Provider Profile
“My practice is where compassion meets results.”
The events that inspired Miranda Barlow’s career in medicine are exceptionally moving. “I was inspired to become a medical provider first when I was 16 years old while my family and I were trekking through the countryside of Indonesia. My mother was a nurse, and when our guide discovered this, he would tell the members of every village we stopped in that he had brought a nurse with him. People would form long lines to get a chance to talk to her. In one particular village, there was a young man with gangrene. My mother asked me to help her care for his infection, though what he really required was an amputation we could not provide. I asked my mother what would happen to him, and she told me that without surgery, he would most likely perish. I asked her what we could do to help, and she replied that I could continue going to school, become a medical provider, and serve my fellow mankind in his honor. This is what I have done.”
Miranda has done more than become a medical provider. In her roles as a registered nurse, family nurse practitioner, and doctor of nursing practice, she has become a reliable, trusted, and collaborative source of care for her patients throughout her career, helping to change lives and improve wellness. “The one thing I’d like to ask my patients is to give me a chance to hear them and form a partnership with me in protecting their health. I would want them to know that with me, we are a team, but they are the driver, and that we can only ultimately go where they are willing to take us.”
Miranda earned her Doctorate of Nursing degree from The University of Portland in Portland, Oregon in 2017. “I served as a registered nurse for six years before obtaining my degree as a family nurse practitioner, and as a certified nurse’s assistant for six years before I was a registered nurse.” Before joining the Nova Health team, she worked at Milwaukie Convalescent Center in Milwaukie, Oregon, St. Charles Madras Health System in Madras, Oregon, Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, and Applegate Valley Family Medicine in Grants Pass, Oregon.
Miranda’s life has been full of travel and exposure to different cultures, places, and people. “I used to live in Saudi Arabia from age 12 to 20 as my father was a petroleum engineer. Through that life, I was able to visit over a dozen countries and travel around our globe twice.” When not serving her patients, Miranda enjoys spending time swimming, drawing, playing with her son, camping, and star-gazing. She lives in Eugene with her boyfriend and son.
