Throughout her life, Melissa Rice has always been committed to community service. “The desire to give back to the community is what motivated me to become a nurse.” Not only is Melissa dedicated to helping her patients lead healthy lifestyles with the support and guidance of her compassionate and attentive care, but she also continues to support her community through her participation of a wide variety of philanthropic organizations, such as the Oregon Food Pack and her local church. It is her humanitarian spirit and commitment to helping others lead their best possible lives that Melissa’s patients find so comforting about her vital role in their own lives.

Melissa graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. After graduation, Melissa brought her comprehensive approach to health care to patients in a wide variety of settings and locations. She served as a General Bedside

Caregiver in the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, Tennessee. From 2008 to 2014 she dedicated her clinical expertise to her roles as a Case Manager and Clinical Educator at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.

Fueled by a desire for continual improvement, Melissa chose to go back to school in 2015. She earned her Master of Science degree from Simmons University’s (formerly Simmons College) Family Nurse Practitioner Program in 2018 and then moved to Oregon to work as a Clinical Educator at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart at Riverbend in Springfield and the University District.

Today, Melissa is proud to be a part of the clinical patient care team at Eugene Urgent Care where she brings expertise in women’s health, adolescent care, and diabetes. “I believe that the Primary Care Partners team at Eugene Urgent Care and is like no other in the area, particularly in its desire to provide safe, evidence-based care for optimum outcomes for the community. The most important thing that I want my patients to understand is that they should always advocate for their health and see their primary care provider at least once a year.”

When not providing patient care or volunteering in the community, Melissa can be found spending time with her husband and son, and their Corgi in their home in Eugene, or challenging her mind. “I am a mathematician at heart, and I love puzzles!”
