Nova Health Provider Profile

Lyle Torguson, MD
“Medicine doesn’t have to be scary or frustrating. I believe that I am my patient’s highly trained advisor and respect that the final medical decisions are ultimately up to the patient.”

Lyle Torguson, MD

Family Medicine and Psychiatry

Dr. Lyle Torguson’s clinical expertise lies at the intersection of family medicine and psychiatry. With decades of experience in the areas of office surgical procedures, nutrition, complementary medicine, and psychiatry, Dr. Torguson brings a holistic approach to treating the entire patient condition to our practice. “My goal is always to help everyone in a family navigate the health field and strive for a better quality of life. The relationships I make with my patients are what matter most to me. I value being a resource for my patients, and someone able to tackle a concern that no one else seems to be able to address.”

After earning his medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in 1988, Dr. Torguson completed his residency at the University of Minnesota Family Practice Affiliated Program at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. During his residency, he served as a Chair on the Patient Education Committee and the Utilization Review Committee at Methodist Hospital and earned the Resident Teacher Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. “I love to teach. I usually host a Nurse Practitioner student at my office year round.”

Throughout his career, Dr. Torguson has treated patients in a wide variety of settings, including the emergency room, urgent care, and family medicine practices. Dr. Torguson has earned a diverse array of certifications, awards, and appointments, and has volunteered his time on several important committees and professional organizations, all aimed at furthering clinical advancements and holistic patient care. He has held several positions as hospital chief of staff or medical director, and his scholarly work has been published in Behavior Health Magazine.

When not working, Dr. Torguson can be found spending time with his wife and two small dogs at their home in Cottage Grove, camping, watching movies, or indulging in his other passions: sculpture and woodworking. “One thing my patients may not know about me is that I am a bronze sculptor.”
