Ben Johnson began his medical career younger than most. At age 17 he began driving an ambulance for a rural volunteer fire department. Since then, Ben’s desire to help others has led him to a career as a compassionate and intuitive certified physician assistant (PA-C) as well as an advocate for physician assistant (PA) education and legislation. Ben is a board-certified medical and surgical PA with experience in both family practice and urgent care. He aims to help organizations such as the Oregon Society of Physician Assistants (OSPA) to further their mission of supporting PAs and providing them with the tools and resources needed to deliver quality patient care. He is also the founder of the Grants Pass Area Provider Association and the Native American PA Association. With more focused advocacy, awareness, and education for the clinical services that PAs offer, particularly in rural Oregon, Ben hopes to support future generations of compassionate caregivers.

Ben received an Associate of Science (AAS) Degree in Respiratory Care from Crafton Hills College in California and an AAS in Physician Assistant Studies from Cuyahoga College in Ohio, graduating Cum Laude. He also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Laverne in California. Ben is a Certified Pulmonary Function Technician (CPFT). For nearly a decade, he worked as a registered respiratory therapist (RRT) and CPFT at hospitals in California and Oregon. Ben’s desire to aid members of his community extends beyond his work as a PA. He has also worked as a firefighter, EMT, and a member of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Dive Team.

Ben’s first piece of his advice to his patients is simple: “Exercise.” It’s advice that he follows regularly. When not working, advocating, and volunteering, Ben can be found camping, boating, fishing, working out, or scuba diving. He lives in Grants Pass with his wife and children
